Grab-n-Go American-voiced 112 Combo with Timeless Styling

The Spanky MKII pairs a classic mid-60’s Blackface-styled preamp with an expanded mid-range frequency control and combines that with an over-built power supply to deliver throwback tone with extra headroom and warmth. With the mid control set around 10 o’clock, you’re in classic Blackface territory. Push the mids past noon, you’re entering Tweed Land with an excellent midrange growl. The perfect tone and the right volume is easy to achieve with the Spanky MKII thanks to our patented HybridMASTER and unique High-Frequency Damping control. Our ambient mode tube/spring reverb circuit from our award winning Dual Citizen amplifier adds superb dimension.

Hand-built in Nashville, TN, The Wooly Coats Spanky MKII features HybridMASTER and Ambient tube/Spring Reverb

Operating on a pair of 6V6 output tubes, the 20 watt Spanky MKII is 3RD Power’s response to overwhelming customer demand for a Spanky combo amp with reverb and HybridMASTER. During the development of the Spanky MKII the goal was simple: create a fresh update to the original Spanky without changing the tone or the feel while including our acclaimed tube driven spring reverb circuitry and our patented HybridMASTER. With the company’s proprietary HybridMASTER volume management circuitry, your guitar tone can be achieved at whatever volume level is right for the room. Tube warmth is enhanced with the on-board 5AR4/GZ34 tube rectifier.

HI-FREQ DAMPING: With the knob fully counter-clockwise it’s out of the circuit. As you rotate the control to the right you slowly increase the tightness of the high frequencies without adversely effecting the attack and midrange harmonic content of your sound. In the off position, you’ll dial in all the same sweet tones the Spanky MKII is known for. When fully engaged the amp gets smoother in the high frequencies without changing the temperament or the feel of the preamp section of the amp – great for conjuring vintage-style tones from the ‘50s and ‘60s. In more subtle settings the guitar tones and the reverb tails separate into a hauntingly dimensional sound. As designer, Dylana Nova Scott puts it, “It was in this realm that I felt like I was nailing sultry T-bone Burnett-style textures. As before, the Spanky MKII can’t get a bad tone and that’s a good thing. But with the new HFD circuit, the player in me finds sonic exploration incredibly satisfying and I was delighted by all of the subtle nuances. Plugging in my shop Strat, I was easily able to get crystal clear Blackface tones as expected but what really got me excited was the fact that I could easily pull off tones ranging from ‘60s Stones (Brown Sugar) to ZZ Top (Cheap Sunglasses), to early Montrose.”

Scott adds, “If you’re performing live, recording or using in-ears, you will absolutely love this new feature as it gives you total control of where you sit in the mix without poking out – more valuable than a compressor for controlling how sharp your transient response is as it doesn’t change the feel of your overall tone.”

NOTE: Although equipped with a foot switch jack, the Spanky MKII does NOT come with a foot switch to defeat the reverb.
